Essay Topics - The Rights of Man

Essay Topics - The Rights of ManThomas Paine is a writer who has published a series of essays on different topics. These topics are difficult to define, but have become increasingly important in today's society, and have gained much attention. Most people agree that the US Constitution has been an essential and necessary piece of legislation, but no one would deny that other institutions, such as the US Supreme Court, have proven useful for the long term development of our country.Every question is important, and every answer to that question must be valid. We cannot, without some element of doubt, ever fully respect something. A religion that we condemn for being too violent, while at the same time many of their followers kill on the streets, is in fact a source of much prejudice, but is it any less valid? Some Americans think that the right to dissent is only limited to those who are so angry and so upset by the things that the US Government does in the name of freedom. It is now a widespread belief that the US Constitution has become too diluted and has simply ceased to be a living document. The tyranny of the majority is very real and threatens all freedom-loving people. Thomas Paine is attempting to express how we can recapture our inner America, and all the beliefs that define that great nation. All freedoms, from religion to sexuality, and even sexual ethics, cannot be eroded by government. Some would say that the United States Constitution is out of date, and that it is becoming too liberal. All people of this world know that those who need liberty most are the most likely to suffer tyranny, so the feeling that liberty is threatened by the present administration is understandable. The destruction of this greatest of all treasures, may well lead to the end of liberty as we know it.With the US Constitution being viewed as the equivalent of a living thing, the freedom of all peoples will continue to grow, and with it, the liberty of all Americans. If this is what Thomas Paine is attempting to accomplish, he has done an incredible job. He has stated himself that the US Constitution was not meant to be a living document, but rather to be a document that would serve as a guide to the actions of the US Government. This document was created to be a living document, but those of us who support liberty and the rule of law must be prepared to amend this precious and very old work. We must also make sure that the changes that we make do not diminish our freedoms and leave us with a dead, expensive, and flawed idea.
